Most of the artists who create abstract urban art, works with canvases instead of paper. Naturally working with real wall is then totally different story, but I am talking about creating shippable piece of art here. I work both with canvases and paper, but lately I have found my self working more with paper than with canvases. Reason is obvious in my case. Space. I do not have at the moment a working room or an enough large space, where I could store empty canvases. Working with paper makes is possible to store more empty sheets in my circumstances and also I found it very reasonable also for the collector as paper can be framed in to several different kind of frames, which can be found from the market.
I work with acrylic paints and spray in the most of the cases. Quality of the materials in my works is extremely important. Also as the paints are acrylics and spray, finding a paper which enables working with several acrylic paint layers and spray layers has been quite difficult. There are massive amount of different art papers in the market and I have tried many of those. In most of the papers, the feeling and quality of the paper with one paint layer is pretty good, but the problem comes with several paint layers.
I have found only one paper, which has all the functionalities that I am looking for: quality, can handle several layers of paint and has several sizes available. Fabriano Pittura 400g is my choice at the moment. Paper is 4 sided glued and it is made from prime quality cellulose, it is Acid Free, and guaranteeing inalterability over time. Ideal for acrylic, recommended for oil and tempera.
